Dr Peter Selvaratnam AM

Peter is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist at the Melbourne Spinal and Sports Medicine Clinic. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at The University of Melbourne and a visiting lecturer at La Trobe University.
Peter’s interest in referred cervical neural pain led to his journey towards a PhD at Monash University in the functional anatomy of the brachial plexus tension test in patients and cadavers. In 2009 Peter, along with Dr Ken Niere and Maria Zuluaga, co-authored Headaches Orofacial Pain and Bruxism.
Peter was one of the first physiotherapists in Victoria to become a Specialist Doctor in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy in 2007. He has since mentored colleagues and is an examiner in the specialist programme.
Peter was awarded the AM, Order of Australia in 2021 for his collaborative research work, professional development of students at three Universities and humanitarian work in trauma counselling in Australia and overseas.
Dr Ken Niere

Ken is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapists in 2008) with over 40 years of clinical experience in the assessment and treatment of spinal disorders.
Ken's research and clinical focus is on the diagnosis and management of headaches, neck disorders (including neck/arm pain and whiplash) and TMJ (jaw) pain. He has lectured on these topics in Australia and overseas and has become regarded as a headache, TMJ and cervical spine specialist physiotherapist.
As a senior lecturer in the School of Physiotherapy at La Trobe University, Ken has taught spinal musculoskeletal physiotherapy at undergraduate and postgraduate levels since 1989. He is an examiner for the Australian College of Physiotherapists. Ken currently lectures on the TMJ to the Masters Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy students at the University of Queensland and co-edited and contributed to a multi-disciplinary textbook –Headache, Orofacial Pain and Bruxism.
